KANGEQ – ABANDONED SETTLEMENT. The Greenlandic settlements are sometimes referred to as the backbone of the greenlandic nation. They have a story to tell. A story of the colonial time but also a story of the first cultures to inhabit Greenland.
A short ride takes us to the abandoned settlement of Kangeq. This is a trip through history. The settlement was abandoned in the 60s by order from the capital and now stands as it was left.
This is also the area where Hans Egede lived and worked some of the years he lived in Greenland.
The tour takes appx. 40 minutes from Nuuk, before you set foot in this abandoned place. You will then have appx. 75 minutes in land with your guide, before we head back to Nuuk.
This area was also the place to be for the old inuit cultures, as they used to meet from south and north and exhange gifts, do business and arrange marriages.
We also arrange tours to Kapisillit and Qoornoq if you are into visiting Greenlandic settlements. Se our tour overview.
