The Qoornoq Island Tour is a three-in-one
Boat tour in the Nuuk Fiord, old settlement visit, and waterfall.
Qoornoq is called Bjørneøen (Bear Island) but the risk of facing a polar bear these days is very small. The island is called Bjørneøen (Bear Island) because it looks like a bear from above.
This tour will take us to the abandoned settlement of Qoornoq, where you get of the boat and get to explore the area. This old settlement is now used as a summer getaway for local citizens of the Greenlandic capital, Nuuk.
After the walk, we will get back in the boat. Following this, we will continue our tour around the island where the captain will point out the old Norse settlement areas on the island.
Finally, we will end the tour with a stop at the iconic waterfall on the backside of mount Sermitsiaq.
This is the Qoornoq tour. We also have tours to other settlements. Check our overview here.
Note: The tour is set to take 5 hours during winter due to the more challenging conditions with ice & snow
