An introduction to kayaking by the colonial harbor
Learn how to use the kayak in Nuuk – get in touch with the handling of the kayak, how to paddle and how to sit tight in a kayak. Our skilled instructor will guide you safely through the experience.
If you already have experience with kayaking then maybe this is more for you: “Kayak tour by Nuuk”
We have all the equipment you will need. Kayaks, paddles, drysuits, shoes, and gloves.
You will meet your local guide at our office and after greeting you, he will start by introducing you to the kayaks.
You will also get a short introduction to the history of the kayaks. Once we are ready, you will be getting dressed up in our dry suits, so you will be ready to go in the water. You should keep some clothes on under the suit – we have many sizes, and the guide will find your suit for you.
When everyone is ready, we will find our kayaks and the equipment we need and we will get to the beach. Here you will start by sitting in the kayaks on shallow water for your safety. The guide will be at your side all the time for you to feel safe.
When everyone is feeling comfortable and safe, we will start paddling out on the water and see what we might encounter – maybe an iceberg will be close. We aim to spend about 1 hour on the water.
At the end of the session, you will receive a certificate that shows you passed our Kayak School.
You can also rent a kayak on your own.
When you are going out on an adventure, it is highly recommended to bring both camera and binoculars. It is also advisable to bring warm clothes. On this boat there is heated cabin, but prepare and bring clothes that keep you warm, when you want to sit outside on the front deck. A neck warmer and glowes is always good.
You are allowed to bring your own food.
