Meet the fleet of Nuuk Water Taxi

Safety First

All vessels are approved by the Danish Maritime Authorities. Furthermore, we only use crews with the approved training and education. In addition, we have all the mandatory insurances for boats and passengers – for the whole fleet of Nuuk Water Taxi.

The boats are CE-certified and certified by Nordic Boat Standard (NBS-Y) for commercial vessels.

The boats are made with a reinforced hull and approved for sailing in icy waters.

Our boats can handle wave heights up to 4 meters and wind speeds of 17-20 m / s (a wind speed at which cars have difficulty keeping it on the road).

Mandatory safety

The mandatory safety is in place. This includes:

  • All statutory approvals from the Maritime Administration
  • Business Insurance
  • Individual special safety instructions
  • Life raft(s)
  • Rescue suits and lifejackets for all
  • Lifebuoy with light
  • Anchor Ball in mast

Extra Security Measures that Nuuk Water Taxi Takes

Safety always comes first. Therefore, our boats have a variety of safety equipment that goes far beyond the requirements:

VHF DSC (an international standard VHF radio, which can send distress signals directly via other ships including; position, ship name, etc.)

AIS - transmitter and receiver (tracking system of vessels which also appears on other ships' radars, and works especially well in the dark, fog and SAR operations)

Iridium (VHF radio has "black spots" in the fjords of Greenland, so it is good to have a satellite phone on board)

Mechanics Workshop - by having mechanics employed we ensure quick service and more maintenance, we often change certain equipment long before what is considered normal, hold extra engine courses for our captains, so that they are more capable on the field and much more.

  • SEA FIRE - fire extinguishing system in the engine room
  • Extra bilge pump
  • Additional fire extinguisher
  • Chart plotter, sonar and Radar
  • Ice spotlights
  • Additional engine
  • Extra ice reinforcement
  • Additional VHF, GPS and Iridium
  • Inflatable dinghy (occasionally)
